Nompilo Simanje works on the intersection of technology and the law and technology and human rights in Southern Africa. She currently works the Legal and ICT Policy Officer for the Media Institute of Southern Africa, a non-governmental organization aimed at promoting the right to privacy, free expression, media freedom and access to information both online and offline.
In this role, she has spearheaded advocacy campaigns, research interventions, capacity building workshops and engagement meetings aimed at promoting data protection and privacy, free expression online and cyber capacity building from a multistakeholder and human centric approach. Ms. Simanje also trains digital safety and security to grassroots communities and students. She was nominated twice under Courtroom Mail 100 Female African Lawyers in 2020 and 2021. She currently serves as a Member of the Advisory Board of the Global Forum for Cybersecurity Expertise.
